Earlier this week we announced the Direct Dutch Film Club, coming up September 15. But this is also the date of the annual Feel at home in The Hague Fair. Of course we wouldn’t want you to miss out on this important event. This week we will announce a new date for the Film Club!
Four times a year we are hosting the Direct Dutch Filmclub at the Centrale Bibliotheek (Central Library) in The Hague. This upcoming edition features the teenage movie ‘Timboektoe’ (2007) by Dave Schram. The movie is based on the series of four books by Carry Slee. The script is written by Maria Peters.
Isa and her older brother Kars move to France, where their parents want to open a camping. Isa meets Jules, a boy who’s half Dutch and who has an alcoholic dad. When Isa and Kar’s parents’ camping,  called ‘Timboektoe’, is just starting to attract visitors, another camping is opened. The not so friendly owner of this new camping accuses Jules’ father of demolition and has him arrested by the French police. The police wants to close down ‘Timboektoe’. Isa and Kars of course won’t let this happen. They will do anything to save their ‘Timboektoe’.
We will watch the movie ‘Timboektoe’ (in Dutch with Dutch subtitles) and discuss it in small groups, ending in a group discussion. Of course, we will discuss the film in (simple) Dutch. Our programme is suitable for everyone with (at least) an elementary knowledge of Dutch who would like to engage in Dutch culture and build on his or her conversation skills in an informal and fun way.
