Dutch film

Did you know Audrey Hepburn made her debut as a film actress in a Dutch film? And that this Oscar winning lady was half Dutch? Not many people do, actually. But you probably do know some films of Dutch making. Dutch film director Paul Verhoeven was very active in both the Netherlands and Hollywood. Movies of his making, such as RoboCop, Totall Recall and Basic Instinct reached large audiences worldwide. But it’s also worth looking into less known Dutch films. They will tell you a great deal about Dutch culture!

Join us on Sunday 07 February in Central Library in The Hague. Dr. Ruud Hisgen (Direct Dutch Institute) will take you on a journey to Dutch film! To make sure you understand everything, we will make exercises together and discuss the answers. All this in simple Dutch, to get you talking! Don’t worry, mistakes are allowed!

Dutch up!

For a few years Direct Dutch Institute and The Hague Public Library have been cooperating to help people speak better Dutch. We call our events Dutch up! Because they do just that: they Dutch you up completely!

Dutch up! is a great way to practise speaking Dutch while also learning more about typical Dutch subjects. You have to have some knowledge of Dutch to be able to fully participate in the workshops (level B1 + ). The entrance is free, registration is required: send an email to dutchup@directdutch.com.
