Dutch up! on Dutch 17th century painters
English
Let’s go back in time. To the Republic of the United Netherlands in the 17th century. Back to the Golden Age when numerous talented painters were producing their countless masterpieces. We all know Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen. Their paintings are today’s main points of attracting in musea all over the world. But how about the fabulous paintings of less famous painters such as Johannes Verspronck, Jan van Ravesteyn and Jacob Ruysdael. In this workshop (in Dutch level B1) we’ll have a look at some wonderful Dutch 17th century portraits, landscapes and still lives. What made these works of art so special? And moreover, what explains the great productivity of Dutch painters in this century?
