On Saturday July 1 we will celebrate the 4th edition of ‘Spreek Nederlands Dag‘. On ‘Spreek Nederlands Dag’ we will ‘fight’ for our right to speak Dutch! It doesn’t matter if you make mistakes, or if you have a thick accent! You can participate if you have some basic knowledge of Dutch (A1 or higher).
Op zaterdag 1 juli vieren we de vierde editie van ‘Spreek Nederlands Dag’. Op deze dag ‘vechten’ we voor ons recht om Nederlands te spreken. Het maakt niet uit of je fouten maakt of een sterk accent hebt! Als je Nederlands spreekt op A1 niveau of hoger kun je al meedoen.
Join us on Saturday July 1 in Central Library The Hague. We will start with a free speed masterclass (to refresh your Dutch speaking skills). After that we will split up in small groups and go into the center of The Hague. Our goal is to speak Dutch as much as possible. With each other and with the waiters in a cafe or restaurant. Of course there will be Dutch speaking volunteers to guide you! And we’ll keep score: is the waiter patient enough, do they continue to speak Dutch with you, even when they’re busy? At the end of the day we will hand out a trophy to the cafe or restaurant which showed the most patience.
Doe mee op zaterdag 1 juli in Centrale Bibliotheek Den Haag. We beginnen met een gratis speed masterclass (om je Nederlands op te frissen). Daarna gaan we in kleine groepjes de binnenstad in. Het doel is om zoveel mogelijk Nederlands te spreken. Met elkaar en met de obers in een café of restaurant. Ondertussen houden we de score bij: is de ober geduldig en blijft hij Nederlands met je spreken? Zelfs als het druk is? Aan het einde van de dag reiken we een trofee uit aan het meest geduldige ober-team.

Direct Dutch Institute organises ‘Spreek Nederlands Dag’ in cooperation with The Hague Public Library, De Taalunie and several other partners. ‘Spreek Nederlands Dag’ is intended for expats who want to speak Dutch in public more often. International people often don’t get enough opportunity to practise their Dutch. Frequently they get an English reply when they attempt to speak it. Even international children encounter this problem.
